“For those of you who do not have many real jewels a lot of use can be made of costume jewellery. It is a very nice way to give a sparkle to your clothes which is so becoming. […] As a rule I would say use jewellery generously to get the most out of it.” The Little Dictionary of Fashion
This magnificent choker, one of the early successful designs, was created for the House in 1947 by Roger Scemama. It was made with 31 round strass set in gold metal and closed with a black velvet ribbon.
Roger Scemama’s reinterpretation of the aesthetic of the Second Empire, so dear to Christian Dior, is reminiscent of an imagery of the jewellery and luxury of the past.
In 2006, Victoire de Castellane drew inspiration from this famous choker and designed the collection Suivez-Moi, based on this bracelet in yellow gold, topaz, peridot, citrine, tourmaline, beryl, sapphires and velvet ribbon.
