The star
On 18 April 1946, Christian Dior stumbled on a metal star in the street. This event changed his life.
The couturier stumbled on a star on Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré in Paris on his way to a meeting with Marcel Boussac, who had agreed to finance a fashion house in his name. He saw it as a sign of destiny!
Christian Dior regularly consulted his fortune teller before making any important decision. As a child, a fortune teller predicted that “women would make his success”. This prediction guided him throughout his life.
Christian Dior used the star as a subtle motif on his dress Bonne Étoile for the Haute Couture Spring-Summer 1952 collection.
The star sign is regularly used by Christian Dior’s successors. It is as much a tribute to the couturier as it is a lucky charm for every woman who wears this gris-gris.
Since 2017, Maria Grazia Chiuri has given the star an even stronger divinatory dimension. This motif is used both in embroidery and on iconic products.
