Mémoire d'hiver
Haute Couture Spring-Summer 2017
For her first Haute Couture collection, Maria Grazia Chiuri worked on memory to define a new history, which inspired these evening dresses, with their changing, powdery colours evoking the passage of seasons and life.
This collection paid tribute to Christian Dior through a set of “herbarium dresses”, a reminder of the couturier’s passion for gardens and flowers, among the main sources of inspiration for his collections.
“After women, flowers are the most divine creations. They are so delicate and charming, but they must be used carefully.” Christian Dior, Christian Dior et moi (Dior by Dior)
Mémoire d’hiver was decorated with hand-painted silk organza flowers made by Pagliani & Brasseur.
They were then trapped between several layers of tulle, evoking a magical and wearable herbarium.
The dresses in the collection were accessorised with jewellery and belts designed by the artist Claude Lalanne, whose universe of plants and animals was expressed, in this instance, with the delicate addition of butterflies, flowers and leaves.
