Look 5
Haute Couture Fall-Winter 2012
Look 5 in the Haute Couture Fall-Winter 2012 collection was a black cocktail ensemble composed of a shortened dress and trousers. This outfit was a reinterpretation of the classic trouser suit in an evening version, which was defined by a contrast of materials: wool cloth and structured silk knit.
“The original silhouette, inspired by a model from the archives, is cut and shortened into a short dress, or a top, to be worn simply over black cigarette pants. The upper part of the silhouette remains the same, untouched; the lower part reflects the way we live nowadays.”
Raf Simons delivered his modern vision of the pantsuit by paying tribute to Christian Dior’s iconic cocktail dress.
He created multiple versions of these silhouettes with shortened dresses in his first Haute Couture collection.
The Esther evening dress from the Haute Couture Fall-Winter 1952 collection was the starting point for some of Raf Simons’ reinterpretations.
